At the 4th Board meeting of the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD) in Manila, Philippines, the Board endorsed and approved the Secretariat’s proposal to recruit a Deputy Executive Director (Deputy ED) to assist the Executive Director (ED) in leading the Fund's mandate i n line with Board’s strategic directions, and to ensure the efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the Secretariat under the ED's oversight and leadership.
The Secretariat of the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD) has now posted the call for applications for the Deputy ED with the aim of appointing the role ahead of the 5th meeting of the Board which will take place on the 8-10 of April in Barbados. The deadline to apply is by the 12th of February at 11:59pm UTC. The required language is English. The location of the roll will be Washington, D.C., USA (not that extensive travel is required as part of the role. The Deputy ED will report to the ED, collaborate with Secretariat staff and the Board, and engage with external stakeholders, including governments, multilateral development banks, UN agencies, climate funds (e.g. the Green Climate Fund), donor agencies, and civil society.Extensive knowledge and experience in financial management and #ClimateChange, particularly regarding economic and non-economic loss and damage, extreme weather events, slow onset events, and their interrelationships with development and finance, is essential.
Key areas of responsibility for the Deputy ED will include: strategic leadership and management oversight; governance, work programming, and budget administration; monitoring, evaluation, and reporting; external relations and stakeholder management and human resources management.
What are our expectations? We look forward to welcoming a Deputy ED that has a strong knowledge, lived experience and understanding of addressing Loss and Damage in the Global South. One that can significantly contribute to massively scaling up the Fund though a resource mobilisation strategy that sees sustainable and predictable funding in the hundreds of billions a year. Someone who will keep close contact with civil society and ensures the timely delivery of documents and vital information. A Deputy ED that sees the Fund get up and running with early interventions by Autumn 2025.
