In her issue brief, Ariadna Anisimov of IDDRI highlighted among others the limitations and opportunities in the context of Loss and Damage existing financing mechanisms including climate finance, disaster risk reduction, overseas development assistance and humanitarian aid. The brief recalls that the research reported that the cost of economic loss and damage is estimated to be between 290 and 580 USD per annum  by the year of 2023, emphasising that the developing countries have only been calling for 100 USD in addition to the existing funding streams. It is worth noting that there is a noticeable absence of substantial discussions regarding the supplementary sources for loss and damage finance, as well as the specific objectives of the fund that go beyond the current funding channels. This is particularly important considering that the taxonomies for loss and damage are still in the process of being developed.  She added that these mechanisms do not cover all forms of loss and damage and urged the new Loss and Damage fund to allocate additional funding to address these effects.
