The Summit of the Future will be hosted by the United Nations (UN), Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, on September 22nd and 23rd of September at the UN Headquarters in New York on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly during Climate Week

At the Summit heads of state and government will come together to affirm a Pact for the Future which will include a Declaration on Future Generations and a Global Digital Compact as annexes. 

The Summit comes at a critical time for global climate policy, less than two months before the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP) gets underway in Baku, Azerbaijan. At COP 29 the New Collectively Quantified Goal on climate finance (NCQG) will be agreed upon and the third review of the Warsaw International Mechanism for Loss and Damage (WIM) will take place. Never was there a more critical time for climate action. 

The following key messages respond to the sections of the Pact for the Future that are relevant for Loss and Damage as well the sessions within the provisional program of the Summit that are relevant for Loss and Damage.
