KEY MESSAGES ON LOSS AND DAMAGE AT COP29

Following the operationalisation of the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage at COP28 and the announcement of pledges amounting to less than US$ 700 million, civil society called for pledges in the billions and not millions to fill the Fund. Under the NCQG, COP 29 offers a critical opportunity to secure the hundreds of billions needed each year for Loss and Damage via a dedicated sub-goal. The 29th Conference of the Parties (COP 29), 6th Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA 6), and the sixty first session of the Subsidiary Bodies of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from the 11th to 22nd of  November, 2024.
